Eric Batchelor <falzer(_at_)home(_dot_)com>:
When I run fetchmail with the file:
-rw------- 1 falzer users 65 May 1 00:04 /home/falzer/.fetchmailrc
containing a single line:
poll mail protocol pop3 username "falzer" keep uidl
I get this sort of output:
~ $ fetchmail
Segmentation fault
But if the rcfile looks like this:
poll mail protocol pop3 uidl username "falzer" keep
fetchmail (with no command line arguments) works.
Weird. I cam't reproduce this. Your "broken" .fetchmailrc gives me
snark:~/WWW/fetchmail$ fetchmail -d0 -a -v -f - <FOO
fetchmail:-:1: server option after user options at uidl
which is what you ought to see.

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for
one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because
it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils
except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of
such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined
to commit crimes.
