[fetchmail]"From " line screwed?

hi,
i am using x86 RH7.1 linux system. the installed fetchmail rpms are

  fetchmailconf-5.9.0-0.7.1
  fetchmail-5.9.0-0.7.1

i use fetchmail to get the mails from the POP3 server here, and telneting to
port 25 gives me the greeting line

  Trying 131.181.127.98...
  Connected to pigeon.qut.edu.au (131.181.127.98).

my local smtp listener is 

  sendmail-8.11.6-1.7.1

the following problem occurs (i use elm as mailer). when i fetch the mail,
the first line of the retreived mail reads 

  "From ..."

without the actual sender. elm then shows the receiver (thats me) rather
then the sender of the mail. so what happens here? does fetchmail wreck the
"From " field?? the "From: " field though is ok.
