If I run the command 'fetchmail -d0 -v -nosyslog', I get the following

fetchmail: Query status=2 (SOCKET)

Please upgrade fetchmail to 6.1.2.
Also, please check your dns server. You could try looking up
pop.west.cox.net directly using tools like dig or nslookup.
