[fetchmail] Odd behaviour ?

2003-01-26 15:35:12
Hi,

While troubleshooting a password issue I ran into some odd behaviour of
fetchmail, which might be of interest :)

I'm running postfix 2.0.0, and fetchmail version:

This is fetchmail release 6.2.0+POP2+RPA+SDPS+SSL+OPIE+INET6+NLS
Fallback MDA: (none)
FreeBSD my.host.org 4.6-STABLE FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE #5: Tue Aug 20 11:07:25
CEST 2002 nivo(_at_)my(_dot_)host(_dot_)org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/AMOR i386

As fetchmail tries to send it's error message, the following happens:

Out: 220 my.host.org ESMTP Postfix Who do you want to mail today? (2.0.0.2)
 In: EHLO localhost
 Out: 250-my.host.org
 Out: 250-PIPELINING
 Out: 250-SIZE 20480000
 Out: 250-VRFY
 Out: 250-ETRN
 Out: 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN KERBEROS_V4 DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5
 Out: 250-XVERP
 Out: 250 8BITMIME
 In: MAIL FROM:<FETCHMAIL-DAEMON(_at_)localhost>
 Out: 250 Ok
 In: RCPT TO:<nivo+hac(_at_)my(_dot_)host(_dot_)org>
Out: 504 <FETCHMAIL-DAEMON(_at_)localhost>: Sender address rejected: need
     fully-qualified address
 In: RCPT TO:<nivo(_at_)localhost>
Out: 504 <FETCHMAIL-DAEMON(_at_)localhost>: Sender address rejected: need
     fully-qualified address
 In: RSET
 Out: 250 Ok
 In: Date: Sun, 26 Jan 2003 23:19:30 +0100 (CET)
Out: 502 Error: command not implemented

Session aborted, reason: lost connection

The line that throws me the most, is the last received line by Postfix from
fetchmail.

Why would fetchmail proceed with sending headers when all recipients have
failed ?

Gr,
