The byte-stuffing at socket level is not correct. The patch
incorrectly assumes (see the comments in socket.c) that IMAP servers
should escape dots at the beginning of a line and should use a dot
line for termination. The protocol does not require any escaping.

Those who have upgraded to 6.2.3 and are using IMAP will see two dots
on the following line where there should be only one:

I suggest that the hack be removed. There are very few broken POP
servers. There is no need for fetchmail to support them.
