Just a silly question, but I noticed that fetchmail for some oddball
reason likes to fetch one message at a time then hand it off to whatever it
needs to before moving on to downloading the next message.
Is there a simple way I can get fetchmail to pull all the messages at
once, maybe dump them to a temp file (in case of system failure or
something) then process them one by one out of that file so that I'm not
sitting there with the connection open to the server for like 20 minutes
just to download 53 messages of which all but 1 are usually spam? It's
causing me issues by having overrunning fetchmail processes and I know it's
totally p*ssing off my ISP.
Doing that would run the risk of loss of email (what happens if your machine
crashes between downloading all the email and handing it over to your local
mail server.
To solve part of your problem, don't run it from cron, use the daemon option
instead. That'll sleep <whatever> seconds between runs, so no overlapping
runs.
Please DO NOT send me ANY email directly unless it's a privacy issue.
Reply-to mangled to assist those who don't read the above.
