Trawled through /var/log/mail/info (the errors and warnigns files were empty)
Nothing obvious in here - was expecting to find a big chunk of data around the
time I downloaded the messages but nothing. Shows mails being delivered ok and
to the correct user, and also displays the users login to opo3 and gathering
their mail.
I am at a total loss with this I think....

Take a look at your mail log (/var/log/mail/info in particular) and see if
anything was logged. Without any log information it's impossible to say
what happened, but it will have ended up *somewhere*.
PLEASE - keep list traffic on the list. Email sent directly to me may be
ignored utterly.
