With pop3 you can set "fetchlimit 10" and then fetchmail send a "quit"
command and reconnect to the Server downloading the next 10 Messages.

With IMAP you must not restart the session because you can set
"expunge 1" which menan, after each singel message it send the
delete command.

I wonder what I am doing wrong.  Here is the fetchmail snippet:
server postoffice.prserv.net:
        proto pop3;
        user popuser there password "userpass" is username here;
flush

Add "fetchlimit 10" or something similar.
