Re: Mnemonic & Asian languages

The discussion of mnemonic and Asian languages often seems to be
at cross purposes.

Mnemonic is just like any other character set. The recipient is meant
to see the single glyphs, not the sequence of us-ascii characters that
encodes the glyph in the Mnemonic system. As long as the recipients
mail reader supports the display of the real glyphs then the user
can't tell the difference between Mnemonic and AUC or ISO2022.

It is only when the recipient can't see the real glyphs that she will
see the sequence of us-ascii characters that corresponds to the glyph.
That sequence will be easier for a person who uses the Latin alphabet
or a superset of it. Is this Euro-centricity? No it is just rfc822-centricity.
This is inevitable in this mailing list discussing backward compatible
extensions to rfc822.
