Ran tells me that there are many pronounciations of chinese characters
and there are many romanisation schemes to chinese. I knew that.
I have also told Ran that we are working with other ways of
doing mnemonics for chinese characters and I find it
a difficult job, and others I know also find it difficult.
Anyway we already have a mnemonic usable for the Mnemonic Internet
Format, which is in use by JISC for other purposes.
I know that the names specified with the Mnemonic format gives
a worse functionality than the current JIS scheme employed in
Japanese email, but still it could work tecnically, and employed
with different japanese character sets it could be a help for
translation.
Anyway mnemonic format can be of good use in Japan and other
places, where for instance Arabic or accented Latin is not present in
the encoding used. For example it is not possible to write my name
with JIS encoding, and using Mnemonic JIS - that is the JIS extended
with mnemonics for the arabic, accented latin, hebrew, Indic scripts etc
not present in JIS - could be very useful.
