- A last call was issued for MIME and Message Headers January 16th.
I am rather shocked to see that the Message Headers document had its
last call issued. I had no idea that this document is so close to the
end of the standards track. (Not that it's a bad document, just that I
didn't know.)
However, this is my own fault for not being on the "ietf" list, so I
will keep quiet about this issue.
The character sets are
tabled in the ID <draft-ietf-822ext-charsets-04.txt> and the nmemonic
encoding is described in <draft-ietf-822ext-mnemonics-03.txt>. If
the working group is willing, the character set tables will be
submitted to the IESG as a informational document, and the nmemonic
encoding will be submitted as a proposed standard. (PLEASE REVIEW
THESE DOCUMENTS AND SEND COMMENTS.)
I'm not sure whether I will be able to find time to review the
mnemonics document properly (poor excuse! :-), but I would like to
make one meta-comment: Greg, if you don't receive many comments from
the working group saying that this document should be proposed as a
standard, I think you should assume that it isn't ready for standard
status. I.e. silence doesn't mean consent. Another possibility is to
threaten to make it a standard, and then see if people complain. :-)
There is at least one serious problem with the "mnemonics" document:
It refers to the "charsets" document, which you say may become an
informational document (as opposed to a standard).

Erik
