I am surprised to see that you are not appearing to consider any use of
the 3 already openly available implementations from Nathaniel Borensien,
Marshall Rose, and Mark Crispin, as announced in this mailing list.

Among them, you should be able to install MIME in the great majority of
your UNIX systems at the least.

I would suggest that this is at leaast worth your time to investigate.
