On the subject of GIF, outght we to distinguish between GIF format
revisions? I recall in working with the NeXT that the two formats
(GIF89 and GIF?? - I dont remember exactly) are different enough to
matter, unless the program is smart (xv is. Not everyone is using X.)
Should we use the full moniker?
