FrameMaker suggests using .doc as the standard file type for
Frame documents.

Well, even FrameMaker isn't consistent within itself.
.doc is standard for the SunOS version.
.frame is the standard for the NeXT version
There is no extension attached for the MacOS version.
Note that the binaries are interoperable, i.e., to open a .frame on SunOS, no
conversion is required, only renaming to .doc.
