... so how is the lowly app/post-generating UA to know what to do?
Must they be a full-fledged ps parser?  Do we require conversion to a
canonical newline?
 
        If  content-transfer-encoding  defaults to  plain text, 
then the composer MUA and it's MTA are obliged to convert  >to< 
canonical newline,  and the receiver/displayer MUA and it's 
delivery MTA are obliged to convert >from< canonical newline. 
As far as I know,  this is already the way things work. 
 
I believe this directly affects interoperability of app/ps
