Here's my X-mas present to this list. As promised in San Jose a draft
checklist for users who want to evaluate MIME capable UAs or gateways.
Note that this is a draft and that the E-mail adresses will certainly
change before this is final, so don't even try using them.
Looking forward to your comments,

I do only have some comments, i.e. things one should check:
1) It is important to know what content-types that are supported
from the minute the software was installed, i.e. the basic
functionality, and what can be supported after adding content-types.
For example, software based on the mailcap and other config/scriptable
schemes _can_ support any content type, but only a few might be
preconfigured from the start.
2) When composing and viewing a message, it is important to know
what content-types that need external viewers. Using external
viewers/composers drastically slows down the "round-trip" time
when reading mail. It is also interesting to know if more
windows opens when reading a multipart message.
The goal must be to have a composer/viewer that shows everything
in one window, like the WWW clients one can get today.
3) When using external viewers/composers which is shareware (or not),
it is important to know what software is included in the
package you install.
For example, one mailer needs xv to show jpeg images, and that is
preconfigured, but xv is not included in the basic package.
Happy New Year!
