Re: The TEXT/HTML Content Type in e-mail

OK, you and Keith Moore have conviced me that both the
Content-Disposition and the Content-Disposition solution have
to be supported.

What about the third alternative, the alternative using
CID-s and MID-s? It is the neatest alternative, but also the
most difficult to implement, since it requires coworking
between a Web browser and a mail system, which both have
to be modified, or alternatively that the mail system goes
into the HTML text and changes the CID-s and MID-s to something
else before turning the message over to the Web browser,
which is not very nice.

I suggest that we describe all three alternatives and recommend
their usage as follows:

Content-Location alternative is recommended for public messages
and when the sender is able to store the related parts in a
Web server. Can also be used for private messages if the
security requirements are not very high and if a password
can be included in the URL.

Content-Disposition alternative is recommended in all other
cases.

Use of CID-s and MID-s is recommended as experimental, those
interested can try it out and we can decide some time later
whether this is to be made into a recommended standard.
