The only ones I know of where it's possible are ones that have a
"dump the whole message in a buffer" mode.

I question whether this sort of thing could be done in a way that
would make it comprehensible enough for any significant number of
users to bother with.

This here UA does something like "You changed the subject. Do you want to  
keep the references? Y/N", except that's not the actual text. (Too lazy to  
test it now, and it's in German anyway.)

That seems simple enough.
