Re: Message Attributes

In <007201c4e2a8$5a7840f0$6401a8c0(_at_)hdev1> "Hector Santos"
<winserver(_dot_)support(_at_)winserver(_dot_)com> writes:

Right now, our nntp server will expose the message with a header:

   X-WcMsg-Attr: Pvt Rcvd

showing the message was private and received.

It would be nice to have MUA begin to learn more about such common message
attributes

One can envisage a whole set of "attributes" that might become associated
with a message (though perhaps calling them "annotations" might be better,
if that fits better with the IMAP facility).

If these things are (somtimes) to be recognized and acted upon by
software, then putting them in an unstructured header is not the way to do
it (and, for sure, we do not want in any way to encourage yet more Tags in
the Subject header).

Then, the facility needs to have built-in extensibility, because we do not
want to invent a new header each time someone thinks of a new annotation.

Therefore, I would suggest using something based on the MIME parameters,
such as

   Annotations: classification=top_secret;
        archived-at="http://foo.example/123456";;
        x-spamassassin-score=5

(and yes, it is a possible alternative to Martin's Archived-At header).
