There's at least one MTA which will happily "deliver" mail to itself
100's of times recursively in such a situation. It will then
"discover" that the message has transited more than 20 hops, and
bounce the message to itself.
Yes, it doesn't notice that it's delivering mail to itself.
Yes, it takes 100's of hops before the MTA notices that the hop
count has exceeded 20.
Yes, people use this garbage software to process mail.
