Ted, it sure would be helpful for you to cite specifics rather than
abstractions, since it is specifics that the IETF delivers.
Describing what it makes it better/different/more appropriate helps
those who will interpret or re-use these pieces understand why they might choose
to re-use them or avoid doing so.
Ahh. So you would like every new effort to produce a document that
records every detail of a group's decision process? Well, yes, that
would certainly be a good disincentive for ever trying to get work done
in the IETF. A working group would be assured of spending all of its
time trying to satisfy these abstract debates -- and never knowing
whether it would succeed -- rather than getting to deliver technical
specifications.
Oh, that's what we already seem to be, these days.
