regarding the trademark for "Sender ID"
2004-09-21 10:16:00
With regards to the registration of the mark of "Sender ID", the
following are the relevant facts we have found:
- there is a UK trademark application for "Sender ID" and "SenderID" by
the same registrant.
- this registrant has been using "SenderID" since at least February
2004.
- to our knowledge, the IETF has not been given permission to use
either "SenderID" or "Sender ID" marks
It is our opinion that all MARID documents should no longer reference
the output of the MARID working group as "Sender ID" or any other
similar mark. We believe the risk to the ISOC and the IETF standards
publishing process to be too great.
If there is a need to refer to a simple name covering this work in IETF
documents, we recommend "MARID".
Of course, individuals and organizations are free to refer to their
specific MARID implementations by whatever marks they find acceptable.
