At the IETF OpenPGP WG meeting last week, it was announced that the formats
draft (draft-ietf-openpgp-formats-07.txt) will be going to the IESG
shortly. Since many items were put off as too complex to hash out during
the deliberations involved in writing this document, it was thought that
once this is published as an rfc, the OpenPGP Working Group should start
working on the next version of the document. That version will include all
the really cool features that we didn't have time to do in the first pass.
For instance, one idea that came up was to include an 'alternate user id'
and allow varying data types including gif or jpg images of the key owner.
I have been tasked with gathering the 'Laundry List' of issues we would
like to revisit as a group. I am requesting that if you voiced an idea that
got 'put off until the next version of OpenPGP' sometime since the OpenPGP
working group formed, please send a brief description of those ideas either
directly to me. I will gather the ideas into a list and post that list to
the ietf-open-pgp mailing list in about one months time. I would like to
close the period for submissions around October 1st. I will be willing to
take ideas for a short time after that, they just will not be in the first
list sent to the working group.
I may also post the list on my web page. If I do that, I will announce the
url to the list as well.
