Re: Some comments on draft-beck-opes-esfnep-01.txt

(and 3) if you're discussing something like SMTP
caching, obviously you want to depreciate the caching
nature of the proxy, since it's not going to
be too beneficial in that case.)

I think the (current) draft does NOT discuss SMTP... Hm, maybe we
should include it and move away from the HTTP centric view on those
services. For example, a mail server could also act as an iCAP client,
forwarding received attachments for virus scanning, transformation
from text to speech, etc...

I have a couple of thoughts -

In voice-data converged networks, a possible deployment scenario is the
usage of SIP for interactive media
communication and HTTP for web access, SMTP for mail access etc. In that
case, it would be useful to extend the
scope of the working group to address SIP related extensions also.

Some example SIP related extensible services are :
(1) an intermediary (to avoid the term proxy) could host a "voice mail"
application that a user agent could choose to use
(2) an intermediary could provide "call filtering" capability that
filters calls from specific callers based on a user's rule module.
