OK, Blake the Chimp Boy has finally caught up with the class. Clean
slate.
If S/MIME becomes standards track, then RC2 cannot even be mentioned as
a possible algorithm for use with the protocol. This is because of its
trade secret status, as opposed to just being patented.
Patented algorithms such as the RSA public-key algorithm, CAST or IDEA
are a different issue, correct? I understand that all of these
particular algorithms have provisions for non-commercial use. If they
didn't, would there be a problem with putting them in the spec?
