Cross-post : How to test S/MIME interop, how to test with PKCS#7, PKCS #10, SSL client and server certs

1997-07-07 21:09:46

The first attempt for this message was bounced on some lists, here it is
on the lists that bounced...second and last try.

--------------------------

Greetings,

This message has been posted to a number of lists, sorry if you got
multiple
copies.

We have put together the next phase of a set of test tools, products
and
auto-responders to assist developers with various security
technologies.

Some of you know and use the following, but we have moved, thus the
service
was interrupted for a while.

We have restored and re-organized to expand the services.

S/MIME - PKCS#7 Messages : mailto:smimetst(_at_)entrust(_dot_)com
------------------------
You can send an e-mail message to smimetst(_at_)entrust(_dot_)com
This will allow developers and users to send and receive all kinds of
S/MIME-PKCS#7 messages to and from this auto-responder.

This will help in testing dual key to single key, and vice
versa interop. For a discussion of dual key systems, please see
http://www.entrust.com/library.htm#key_pairs

Many vendors in the RSA S/MIME interop tests(
http://www.rsa.com/rsa/S-MIME/smime_test.htm) , the EMA Security
Challenge
and the EDI over internet have demonstrated interop between single and
dual key systems.

This will be useful to those that want to interop with dual key based,
public CAs and their clients.

SSL Client Certs : Instant Gratification
----------------------------------------
http://www.entrust.com/webmenu.htm

This web site will allow you to get x509v1 certs, quickly.
If you want x509v3, see below.

PKCS#10, CAPI, SSL Web Server Certs : Instant Gratification
--------------------------------------------
http://www.entrust.com/webmenu.htm
This web site will allow you to get x509v1 certs, quickly.
If you want x509V3 and/or support for Microsoft IE that is not yet on
the
instant demo yet, you can download Entrust/WebCA from
http://www.entrust.com/webca_readme.htm

Misc Certificate Request Tool : Entrust/WebCA
----------------------------------------------
If you want x509V3 and/or support for Microsoft IE that is not yet on
the
instant demo or for those that want to set up their own CA for testing
and interop to issue certs to web servers, browsers and S/MIME e-mail
packages, you can download Entrust/WebCA for free from
http://www.entrust.com/webca_readme.htm

Note : We have done testing with a few S/MIME user agents and it worked
for
them in our tests, but any feedback for others is appreciated.

Future Services
---------------
Entrust, Entrust customers and our partners will be rolling out a
number of
new auto-responder CAs in order to prototype a collection of next
generation
public service CAs and enterprise CAs coming on line in the coming
months.
Watch our web site for additional information.

Best effort, legal disclaimer, Community Self-Support, etc
----------------------------------------------------------
Alas, we have spent a lot of time and money getting this to this stage.

These on-line CAs are for demonstration and development purposes.

No background checks are done before issuing the instant certs.

WebCA users, can do their own background checks if they choose, before
issuing certs. See http://www.entrust.com/why.htm and
http://www.entrust.com/insource.htm for additional technical
information
in this regard.

Final Note
----------
Many of our developers spent their nights and weekends getting this
going,
and now it's time for them to move to other projects. We'll do our
best
to keep things up to date, but this developer service is described by
the
legalese words "best-effort".

Hope this helps move a few yardsticks forward,
Michel
