Re: Consensus call: draft-crocker-email-arch -- envelope vs. trace vs. ...?

Folks,

It has a third advantage.

The latest version of email-arch distinguishes envelope from trace information.

The former is information consumed by the MHS, so it is the same as "SMTP envelope". The latter is the information produced by the MHS, so it comprises such things as Received and Return-Path header fields.

After a little bit of further though, I find myself still wishing for a single term to refer to all MHS-related information. In a blinding moment of finally seeing what now feels obvious, I want to suggest the blanket term:

   Handling Information, comprising:

Envelope: Information consumed by the MHS.
Trace: Information produced by the MHS.

Does this work for folks? (And by "work for" I am really looking to get two kinds of responses:

     1) Does anyone object?

     2) Does anyone find this helpful?
