Nominations Now Open for the Prestigious Internet Hall of Fame Awards
Hong Kong to Host Third Annual Awards Ceremony
[Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland] - The Internet Society today
announced that nominations for the 2014 Internet Hall of Fame are now open.
Hong Kong has been selected as the site of the 2014 Internet Hall of Fame
awards ceremony, to be held on 8 April 2014.
Now in its third year, the Internet Hall of Fame honors and celebrates Internet
visionaries, innovators, and leaders from around the world who have
significantly contributed to the development and advancement of the open,
global Internet. The Internet Hall of Fame reflects the living history of the
Internet and the 2014 honorees will add to that history, available for all to
experience through the Internet Hall of Fame, http://www.internethalloffame.org.
Organizations and individuals from around the world are invited to make
nominations, and the form is available on the Internet Hall of Fame website,
http://www.internethalloffame.org/nominations. Nominees are considered for
induction into one of three categories:
• Pioneers: individuals instrumental in the early design and development of the
Internet
• Innovators: individuals who made outstanding technological, commercial, or
policy advances and helped expand the Internet’s reach
• Global Connectors: individuals who made major contributions to the growth,
connectivity, and use of the Internet, either on a global scale or within a
specific region or community
"The Internet would not have happened without the incredible work of many
pioneers and visionaries," said Robert Hinden, Chair of the Internet Society
Board of Trustees. “The Internet has made a significant difference in the lives
of millions of people around the world; this would not have happened without
the work and devotion of these people. This is your opportunity to recognize
them for their contributions that made the Internet a reality."
A vibrant city with a highly connected population, Hong Kong will host the 2014
Internet Hall of Fame ceremony on 8 April. The ceremony will be one of the
highlights of the International IT Fest 2014 in Hong Kong, 7-20 April.
Reflecting the dynamic, global nature of the Internet, the awards ceremony will
move to a different region of the world each year. Following Hong Kong, the
ceremony will be held in Latin America in 2015, Africa in 2016, and North
America in 2017.
“Hong Kong is consistently ranked among the world’s most dynamic cities and
will provide the ideal setting for next year’s ceremony,” remarked Lynn St.
Amour, President and CEO of the Internet Society. “The 2014 event promises to
be as inspiring as the previous events, gathering some of the greatest thinkers
and collaborators.”
