IETF 100, Singapore -- proposed path forward and request for input

2016-05-24 12:31:48
FYI - Someone just pinged me to ask me to pay attention to this conversation.
I’m catching up on the threat and laugh at some of the “experts” who are
putting forward how things work in Singapore.

For those who don’t know, Singapore is my second home. I’ve been in/out since
1994. This conversation about LGBT laws in Singapore is interesting. I’ve got
close personal friends who were “open” before 1994, are good colleagues now (we
build the Internet together), lives with a partner, and has great success. Are
there challenges? Yes. Just like there are challenges with gender bias, racism,
class, clans (it is Asia), etc. That is the human condition in the world. Does
Singapore LAW get in their way? No! This individual is in Singapore National
Service and has a security clearance. The government knows all about the
person’s character. The Singapore way is to not have things like this get in
the way of “business.”

Singapore has hosted a whole range of meetings and activities over the year.
There will be nothing that would get in the way of IETF work, people flavors of
life bringing their families and having fun. It happens all the time. Singapore
wants your $$$$. We’ve had ISOC, ICANN, APNIC, APRICOT, ITU, and many other
international groups meet productive in Singapore.

If people really want to know what is going on in Singapore, please ask people
who where born, live, and know the country. All this other information is
counter-productive (IMHO).

PS - I’ll have a conversation with anyone to help them gain a better
understanding of Singapore. Just ping and we can get on a call.
