This chunk of software may have something to do with the your problem.
Is this a Microsoft product that delivers the mail you compose
in your client? Probably a Microsoft Exchange client. Therefore,
your client is either converting the HTML to text before sending,
or the Exchange server is doing it for you. You need to check the
configuration of both components.

What is being received is text/plain. Sendmail does not mess with
mail messages unless you have done some unique configuration of it.
