subject line truncated in archives search

2004-12-16 13:51:47

Hello;

Odd problem. Not sure if it is a MHarc issue or Namazu.

Background - I recently rebuilt my archives index due to some issues with
Namazu related to encoding on a new mailserver. Everything seems to be
fine, Namazu now runs from cron with no errors.

However, when you do a search in the list archives, the returned search
results page contains mostly random single-character subject lines.
Sometimes a single letter or a number, often a single question mark, and
sometimes the full subject. The two-line content snip underneath is also a
single character, although the Author and Date lines are fine. Using the
Thread or Date indexes are fine, no problems, all subjects are intact, it's
only when searching that the problem appears.

Here's an example:
6. ? (score: 33)
    Author: Joe Blow <JoeBlow(_at_)gmail(_dot_)com>
    Date: Thu, 15 Jul 2004 11:24:18 -0500
    .
    /postcard-archives//html/Postcard/2004-07/msg03124.html (8,589 bytes)

See the question-mark subject and the single '.' content?
The files themselves are fine; clicking on the truncated subject brings up
the actual message file, complete with full subject header and message text.

There are no errors in the cron logs from running the indexing task.

Anyone seen this before? These emails are all run through demime prior to
delivery to the list and to MHarc, so they are all 100% plain-text.
