I'd waste less if there was less code
Refactoring code so that there is less of it is a good thing. Throwing
away defensive copies or code that does something that could "never
happen" that is under someone else's control is a bad thing. If the
code that could "never happen" isn't within a few lines of your
current code, it could (and will) happen. It is not "slow and sloppy"
but absolutely vital.
