[Nmh-workers] nmh 1.2 failed in doing smtp authentication

Dear all

I am a new nmh user. I configured mts: smtp and configured SMTP server
hostname. I compiled nmh 1.2 myself with sasl support. My sasl is
cyrus-sasl 2.1.22-r2. OS is Gentoo Linux.

When sending emails, I got the following:

zhangweiwu(_at_)esmeralda:/usr/local/nmh$ send -verbose -watch -sasl

post: problem initializing server; [BHST] SASL base64 decode failed: another

I am confused and don't know how to handle this case. Would you provide
some info/hints how can I further solve / diagnose the problem?

By the way I think my password is not incorrectly configured because I
am have not even yet to enter my password.
