Realistically, leaving it set to "vi" (not "/usr/bin/vi") is fine.
i'm +- on that. vi is optional in posix, meaning some systems don't have
to be able to install it, and it's optional in the field, meaning that
some systems actually don't have it.
and i'd bet precious few of those have mh installed.
most people set VISUAL in their profiles.
while i'm sure that's true, i'm curious now where it comes from these
days, or how the user knows to set it. i expected to find it
defaulted in /etc/profile.d or /etc/skel, but it's in neither place.
the VISUAL vs. EDITOR distinction is a bit anachronistic, these days.
