Like I said, I'm neutral on changing the default prefix; that means that
if someone goes through the trouble of changing it in git, I won't complain,
but I won't do it myself.
But ... there is an uninstall target! It's included as part of Automake.
It even gets checked via "make distcheck", so it should work fine.
huh. who knew? i'd probably still not trust it though. :-)
