They go in the same place they came from, exactly as sortm behaves. For
example, if the folder contained messages 1,2,3,5,6,7 and the command was
'permute 3 5', then message 3 and 5 would be interchanged, so that the
messages would still 1,2,3,5,6,7.

the beginning or ending of the list, this sounds like a smple shell
script to me.
