I sympathize with your concerns about the traffic on the ietf mailing
list. I think there's a simple explanation to this and that we can try
to avoid nastiness.
The "Triple DES" discussion was appropriately started on the PEM-DEV
mailing list. That list exists precisely for such discussions.
Somewhere along the way, someone contributed to the discussion with a
message to the IETF list, either because it was of potential general
interest to that list, or simply by mistake. I think that folks, have,
in turn, been responding without realizing the full extent of their
audience.
So, I'd like to request that PEM-DEV'ers be very cautious about posting
or cross-posting to the IETF mailing list, and for subsequent PEM-DEV
responders to be even more careful about posting or cross-posting their
responses to the IETF mailing list.
Indeed, PEM-DEV is a much more appropriate list for this discussion.
