        I hope Ella Gardner can confirm that Ken Rossen, who used to
work for me at BBN, attended several ANSI directory meetings and
submitted a work item to add the next update field.  Ken reported to
me that the committee considered the lack of this field not to be a
defect and thus it was not a high priority item, but rather was
treated as a new work item for later processing.
