DNs do exist independent of encoding. The DER, including the complex ones that apply to RDNs that consist of multiple AVAs, are needed to uniquely encode a DN when the DN is to be signed, e.g., in a certificate.
Silly question. When should one encode with Printable Strings and when should one encode with T61 Strings? Or do you consider that info "part of the DN" which is what I am doing now. -Ray
