RE: Why are we here?

Tom Jones> There is no scope or purpose to PEM.

Then your question, "Why are we here?", is an extremely good one. But
based on the number and strength of responses I've received so far, many
others here believe their work should have some purpose.

Guys like Bob and I are trying to find uses for it within our
(commercial) environments.

With an address of "DOCKMASTER.NCSC.MIL", it may be that what you mean by
"commercial" is far from what most of us mean. Is it possible you have
strong ties to groups not in the commercial sector?

I am not here to have you, or Steve Kent, or anybody else tell me what
I may, or may not, use PEM for.

As I suspect you know, no one is trying to, Tom. Your comment is
particularly interesting coming right after your message apparently
claiming that no one is allowed any choice but to consider any use of PEM
as a signature rather than an envelope.

The time to write a scope and purpose is prior to publishing the
document.

You couldn't be more right. Did anyone do so?

Note that now PEM is so difficult to use that even a majority of the
comments on this board are not signed!

Or perhaps people just aren't sure what PEM does well, or whether what it
does is what they want.
