Subject: MEETING NOTICE AND INVITATION
WORK GROUP ON NOTARIZATION AND NONREPUDIATION
Information Security Committee, EDI/IT Division
Section of Science and Technology
You are cordially invited to participate in a meeting of the
WORK GROUP ON NOTARIZATION AND NONREPUDIATION of the Information
Security Committee on Tuesday-Wednesday, September 7-8, 1993.
This interdisciplinary work group will continue to address con-
ventional and electronic notarization and certification authority
issues. The meetings are focused around the work product of its
respective participants and will be highly results-driven.
At the last Work Group meeting, considerable progress was made in
understanding notarial roles and limitations, in both common law
and civil law jurisdictions. Also, agreement was reached, and
work commenced, on the development of model certification auth-
ority guidelines/rules of practice to provide a legal framework
for the use of certificate-based public key cryptography.
Joe Potenza, Chair of the ABA Section of Science and Technology,
has kindly permitted us to hold the meeting at his law firm in
Washington, DC. The meeting agenda and logistics are attached.
I look forward to seeing you in Washington.
Sincerely,
Michael S. Baum, Chair
Information Security Committee
and EDI/IT Division
