From John Cole on the PEM-DEV mailing list:
I have gotten a copy of the TIS/PEM FAQ and have read through
it, but would appreciate it if you'd send me any new info you
have regarding PEM/MIME and how I might go about implementing it
into the Z-Mail MUA.
We're currently alpha testing a TIS/PEM-MIME implementation. It has
been done according to a slightly revised version of the internet draft
distributed at the last IETF. (Implementing always turns up little
details that tweaking.)
There are two parts to the work. First, we're continuing with the use
of the Rand MH Message Handler for our baseline. We've made changes to
it to support multipart/security. In addition, we've discontinued
TIS/PEM's tight coupling with MH; it is now possible to use TIS/PEM with
any version of MH.
Second, we've enhanced TIS/PEM. Instead of the currently distributed
catscc and catrcc, we now have pemsign, pemencrypt, pemverify, and
pemdecrypt. In addition, there are scripts that are used to provide the
"glue" between MH and PEM. What this means is that for other user
agents all you need to do is provide scripts that implement the
necessary "glue".
There are other features but those are the most important. We've got
several beta testers lined up for this version. However, if you've
already had TIS/PEM running for some time, are currently running the
latest version, and are interested in beta testing the next release,
contact "tispem-support(_at_)tis(_dot_)com" and we'll see what we can do.
