Personally I find that the single pass code to process MIME such as metamail is a bit of a mess. I prefer to have a first pass that parses the message and returns a structure. Then you pick the bits of the structure that you want. I would rather NOT see changes made just for the sake of single pass parsing. Having as little clutter at the top of the file for NON-MIME and PEM users is a good idea. Better to have Hmm, wonder what this PEM stuff is about instead of B****y PEM users... Pete.
