DESCRIPTION
The security multiparts document includes the specification of a
protocol parameter for both the multipart/signed and multipart/encrypted
content types. The value of this parameter is the content-type of the
control information included in the multipart object.
It was observed that this parameter provides only redundant information
in some implementation architectures. However, for other architectures
it provides a necessary early decision point for passing control to the
security services.
POSITION
Accept the protocol parameter as specified in the security multiparts
document.
In the future I would like to see this parameter changed to allow for a list of
signature or encryption information parts. This doesn't need to happen now,
however -- it can be done later. Getting the document out is more important.
