Jim,
I asked you if you objected to this procedure yesterday when I
suggested it, during the phone call you initiated, and at that time
you indicated that you had no objections. Nonetheless, you ask a fair
question.
I'm interested to see how many people care enough to vote.
I'll see what reasons are provided for "no" votes, to make sure that
we do have a complete understanding of the reasons why some people are
objecting to the spec. Also, for those who support the spec, I'd like
to get a better sense of the reasons for the support, though I didn't
require such justification. if we are to progress this spec, I want
to get more of a sense of the "WG concensus" than I am getting from
the email discussions and the show of hands at the IETF.
As for the duration of this process, I am NOT sympathetic to
the objection you raised. I said this when you filed the revised
draft just prior to the last IETF meeting, I reiterated it in my most
recent message to Amanda (recapping the history of the MIME-PEM
specs), and I'll say it one more time. When the authors took over 4
months to respond to the first set of comments provided on the March
draft, they forfieted all right to demand a speedy resolution to this
process, period.
