Some of us have been discussing the issue of "receipt" on this list for a few
days now. I am wondering if it would be appropriate to move the discussion to
the IETF receipt mailing list.
From past IETF meetings, it has become clear to me that "receipt" is a
religious
thing that gets people very emotional. I think partly because it makes some
people uneasy when a recipient is forced to sign for a message they receive. One
may argue that it is one's right not to sign a receipt.
Also, I think the discussion we had demonstrates that people are not in
agreement on the terminology used to describe the service.
Last, but not least, the legal issues need to be hashed out before offering a
service. One needs to know the consequenses as well as the level of protection
the receipt service is affording them.
I think the IETF receipt working group is a good home to have the above
clarified. Although, I understand that they are currently focused on defining
the syntax of a "receipt" and the mechanism to transport that.
