I can't seem to get any response from the mail system when I try to
invoke procmail from a .forward file, as shown in the man page example.
The information you gave seems to indicate .forward is not invoked at
all. To know why, a good solution is to invoke mail with a verbose
option. The details can vary along operating systems. Here is an example
on Ultrix:
% date | mail -s test -v bortz
/users/labinf/bortz/.forward: line 1: forwarding to "|IFS=' ';exec
/usr/local/bin/procmail #bortz"
"|IFS=' ';exec /usr/local/bin/procmail #bortz"... Sent
See? It worked. Any error in .forward would have been reported here.
here's a representative .forward file I've tried
"|/usr/local/bin/procmail -f- #jimo"
It seems OK but I'm unsure about the dash '-' just after the '-f'. Try
with simply "/path/procmail". My .forward is:
"|IFS=' ';exec /usr/local/bin/procmail #bortz"
