Help with man pages

1995-12-19 01:10:50

< You can try to read them manually by typing
< nroff -man /usr/local/man/man5/procmailex.5
< this (at least) should work. How exactly did you set your manpath? you
< need /usr/local/man .

Thanks for your help. I think you've put me onto the right track to at
least identifying my problem. I took your advice and added /usr/local/man
to my MANPATH. Now, when I type "man procmail", I get:

        Reformatting page. Wait...
        neqn: Not found
        tbl: Not found
        nroff: Not found

A further investigation of nroff in the "man man" page presents me with
the following:

The /usr/catman directories have all been processed by nroff(1). AT&T
does not allow Silicon Graphics, Inc. to ship the nroff(1) sources for
   manual pages.

To format locally added, unformatted manual pages, man requires nroff(1),
tbl(1), and neqn(1) which are contained in the Documentor's Work Bench
software option. Manual pages may be pre-formatted on systems which have
nroff, et al, and the resulting formatted versions may be installed on
IRISes which do not have the Documentor's Work Bench.

Isn't that lovely? Looks like I'm really out of luck! I've been
through all the system administrator's guides that came with this
machine and can't find any mention of nroff or the Documentor's Work
Bench. Anyone, by any chance, have some pre-formatted man pages they
could send my way? Or, anyone know how I can get nroff(1), tbl(1), and
neqn(1)? Any help would, again, be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
for your efforts, Clemens.

For those of you new to this conversation but of a mind to help, I am
attempting to install procmail onto a Silicon Graphics Iris Indigo.
Unfortunately, as I can't get procmail up and running yet, my old
disclaimer still hold:

If anyone is kind enough to tell me where I am going wrong I would greatly
appreciate it. I'm not subscribed to this mailing list, so please send any
replies directly to me at:

                      allen(_at_)iris2(_dot_)utsi(_dot_)edu

I may subscribe soon. At the moment, I get WAY too much mail to subscribe to
another list. Procmail was supposed to help me with that, if I can ever get
it going. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Again, thanks for your help.

                                            -Allen
