[Re: .forward file not working on DEC Alpha with OSF/1]
Here is an interesting form of .forward file that can be used for testing
procmail:
\stern, "|<standard procmail stuff here>"
At least on our system, this saves both to the standard mailbox and also
does the piping to the procmail process. The '\' in front of your login
name keeps sendmail from going into an endless loop.
What I found is that whatever I used in the pipe, e.g., the vacation
program, didn't work.
As it turns out, our sysadmin had configured sendmail so that it can't
fork another process. Apparently there was a security hole.
I don't understand why there is a hole, or how it would be exploited,
but I would be interested in how one plugs the security hole but still
can allow sendmail to forward mail to a pipe.
