biff notification and procmail

1996-03-26 14:25:09
the documentation says that this should work but i get the following
behavior on my sparc 10 running solaris 2.4. i did a standard build
for solaris of version v3.10 1994/10/31.

if biff is off in the shell or COMSAT=no in the .procmailrc file,
then mail which is sorted into a folder and not sent to the system
folder is not reported as having arrived. if biff is on in both,
the last message in the system folder is reported as new mail when a
message which gets sorted arrives, as in the following example:

  maze(_at_)rfs63: maze>date && mail -s "test" maze < /dev/null
  Tue Mar 26 12:55:28 PST 1996
  maze(_at_)rfs63: maze>
New mail for maze(_at_)rfs63 has arrived:
  ----
  Date: Mon, 25 Mar 1996 08:58:00 -0800
  To: ecomaillist(_at_)uclink(_dot_)berkeley(_dot_)edu,
ibgradstudents(_at_)uclink(_dot_)berkeley(_dot_)edu,
  From: sudayagi(_at_)nature(_dot_)berkeley(_dot_)edu (Sujaya Udayagiri)

Ecolunch speaker on April 1 (no, its not April fool) is Keith Hopper and
the title of his talk is:

Is there a way that I can configure 'biff' to work correctly so that
any new mail is reported once correctly?

Don
